For those who live within the Chelmsford City Council district, garden waste collections, which are organised by Chelmsford City Council, will soon be changing. From 1 March 2025, your brown bin will only be emptied if you’re a paid subscriber.
Residents who subscribe will see no difference from the current brown bin collection service. The annual subscription prices, set at a similar level to other Essex council schemes, are as follows:
£60 for one brown bin to be emptied, paid yearly.
£45 for a first brown bin for anyone currently receiving Council Tax Support.
£30 a year for a second brown bin. This price applies to everyone.
There are no set up fees and householders without an existing brown bin will be provided with one at no extra cost. Your subscription will pay for a year of collections until 28 February 2026.
Once you subscribe, you’ll get a personalised sticker to put on the back of your bin, underneath the handle. After 1 March, collection crews will only take your garden waste if they see the sticker, so don’t forget to put it on your bin as soon as you receive it.
